The third in the series of books of images and haiku concentrates on the Mallerstang Valley in Cumbria, UK, following the earlier Landscape as Haiku and River as Haiku books. The essay that accompanies the images has the subtitle “The Legacy of Lockdown” because it was during being confined in Mallerstang during the Covid lockdown in 2020, with lots of time to think, that I started to write more haiku. The idea of adding the images (in the vertical 5/7/5 format of the Japanese written haiku, came later – initially as an article for the online photographic magazine On Landscape.
